The trash along Jeff Todd Way seems to be relentless, and so have the efforts of his family and friends who have been behind “Clean Up Jeff Todd Way,” between Telegraph Road and Richmond Highway in the Woodlawn area of Mount Vernon.
Jeff Todd was a Mount Vernon community figure and was killed in a car accident in 2011. The clean-up event has been held every year since. He was also a former chairman of the Mount Vernon Springfield Chamber of Commerce and had such an impact they named a road after him.
This year, on Saturday, Oct. 19, the chamber and area residents will be heading out in fluorescent vests with trash bags in hand to continue this effort. They are asking everyone to meet at the Wegmans in Hilltop Village Center at 8 a.m. where they will map out a plan. There is a shuttle to Jeff Todd Way, which is about two miles from Hilltop. For high school students, it's an opportunity to gain volunteer hours as well.
