The Departmental Progressive Club once again held its annual Good Friday Fish Fry March 29 at the organization’s headquarters on Gibbon Street.

“We have done this annually for many years,” said DPC vice president Merrick Malone. “The only time I can remember not doing it was during COVID but we started up again last year and are going strong.”

DPC members prepared and served fried trout and sides to patrons, who filled the DPC facility throughout the afternoon either dining in or picking up takeout orders.

Eugene Boyd attended the fish fry with a group of his golfing buddies, who call themselves the No Name Golf Club.

“We are a fellowship of golfers who have been playing together for two decades,” Boyd said. “We love the game and are here to support our brother and fellow member Merrick Malone.”

DPC members and volunteers spent the day cooking and serving up dinners that included generous servings of trout and sides that included mac and cheese, potato salad, green beans and coleslaw. The popular event continues to be a sell out and serves as a fundraiser for the historic organization.

“This is a great event for us and is a way of bringing the community together,” Malone said. “And the fish is darn good.”
