Fairfax City’s Parks and Recreation Department is partnering with the City’s public schools to help City families in need this holiday season. And local residents may lend a hand by participating in the Sherwood Center Giving Tree program.
Parent liaisons and counselors from Daniels Run and Providence elementary schools have assisted in identifying these families each school. And children in need from Fairfax City Connected Care and the Main Street Child Development Center will also be sponsored.
Families completed a form with their information and wish list, and this giving program is an opportunity for departments, companies, individuals or anyone wanting to give back. Participants must commit by Nov. 20.
People may choose to buy gifts for a large or small family; donate gift cards, checks or cash; make online donations at https://www.fairfaxva.gov/; purchase items from a particular, Amazon wish list; and/or contribute gift-wrapping supplies. Those sponsoring a family will receive information about their needs.
To make donations and for specific information about participating, contact Karen Lussier at Karen.Lussier@fairfaxva.gov or call 703-591-3689. All gifts must be delivered unwrapped to the Sherwood Center, 3740 Old Lee Hwy., Fairfax, no later than Friday, Dec. 4. Parks and Rec staff will wrap and deliver all presents to the recipient families before winter break.
