During Thanksgiving week, the Shepherd's Center serving Oakton-Vienna-Reston-Herndon (SC) was able to share Thanksgiving meals with local isolated senior clients. SC's Thanksgiving dinner delivery initiative was welcomed by their clients.
"This is a wonderful example of everyone of all ages in the community helping each other. The volunteer delivery drivers all said they got more out of the experience than they gave," said Jayne Young, Interim Executive Director, Shepherd's Center.
In addition to the holiday meal prepared by Bazin's on Church, SC also delivered goodie bags complete with masks, hand sanitizer, greeting cards created by the fifth grade Girl Scout troop at Wolf Trap Elementary and snack bags with fruit compiled by the K-6 graders at Emmaus' Children's Ministry.
This event was funded by Northrop Grumman and Susan Lorand. Meal deliveries were made by Board members Rich Deusterhaus, Bill Farrell, Patti Vaughn, Leigh Banducci, Scott Schroth and Jayne Young. Also delivering were volunteers Matthew Humphrey, Executive VP, Head of Wealth & Investment Management, United Bank, Joe Young, Matthew Banducci, Susan Garvey, Director of Community Outreach, The Kensington Reston and Thom Garvey.
