Donations of Bicycles Sought for Community Service Month in Montgomery County

On Friday, Oct. 18, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will sponsor its annual bike collection during this year’s Community Service Month celebration, making sure that a youngster in need will benefit from those donations.

Bicycles and bicycle parts can be brought from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. to the outside area adjacent to the Montgomery County Council Office Building parking garage at the corner of East Jefferson and Monroe Streets in Rockville.

The donated bikes and parts will go to the Rockville Bike Hub, a nonprofit organization whose volunteers refurbish the bikes and then give them to low-income residents in the county. The bicycles are distributed through Rockville’s Terrific Kids program and to other charitable organizations that need bikes to distribute during the holidays.

Bikes for the World is partnering with Rockville Bike Hub to accept donations of bikes that are beyond Rockville Bike Hub’s ability to repair. Residents also can support the program with checks to the Rockville Bike Hub program. All donated funds will be used to purchase parts to repair the bikes.

Last year, 100 child and adult bikes were collected.
