A ceremony will be held Saturday, May 18, at 10 a.m., outside the McDonald’s at 5931 Fort Drive (off Route 28) in Centreville. It will be the dedication of a historic marker commemorating the six Civil War soldiers discovered there in January 1997 when site work was underway for the new restaurant. They’d fought in a unit from Massachusetts and, years later – after they were eventually identified – their bodies were returned there for burial.
