Three people were arrested at Tysons Corner Center on Thursday after one of them was caught shoplifting from a store. A 22-year-old Annandale woman was caught shoplifting at the Spencer’s store. An officer responded and issued her a summons for a future court date. As she left with a group of friends, a 19-year-old Annandale woman threw down her water bottle and dumped her drink all over the store’s floor and walked away. When she was approached by an officer, she began screaming and acting disorderly. She was taken back into the store, but attempted to break free from the officer and continued to act disorderly.
To gain control and prevent her from harming herself or others, she was taken to the ground by the arresting officer and finally handcuffed. She was issued a summons for disorderly conduct and obstruction of justice and was also banned from Tysons Corner Center by mall management for one year. During this incident, a 27-year-old man of Fairfax aggressively approached officers, cursing at them and attempting to interfere with their investigation. He was arrested for disorderly conduct and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and was released on a $2,000 bond – according to FCPD Media Relations Bureau.
Fairfax County Police are trained in proven de-escalation techniques, and the department provides a 40-hour Crisis Intervention Team Training at its Criminal Justice Academy for other Northern Virginia law enforcement departments as well.
