Potomac Community Village
Potomac Community Village (PCV) is a non-profit network of neighbors and friends geared to enabling older Potomac residents to age in place in their existing homes by creating social connections and providing volunteer services, such as occasional transportation, computer help, simple home repairs, and friendly phone calls and visits. PCV is part of a nationwide movement of more than 500 Villages, of neighbor helping neighbor. Senior Forum and Resource Fair
Hosted by County Council Vice President Katz and Councilmember Friedson, the senior forum will be Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at Potomac Community Recreation Center, 11315 Falls Road, Potomac, Maryland 20854
Subject matter experts will speak on:
•Wellness and Brain Fitness: Reduce the Risk of Dementia
•10 Ways to Prevent a Fall
•Detecting and Avoiding Financial Abuse
A wide range of service providers to seniors will showcase additional topics including: Aging in Place; Community Engagement; Elder Abuse and Scam Prevention; Fire Prevention & Public Safety; Healthy Hearing; Lifelong Learning; Mental Wellness; Transportation and more.

National Grandparents Day
Plan to Celebrate National Grandparents’ Day on Sept. 8, from 8:30 am to 12 pm at Glen Echo Park and “Help All Seniors Thrive!” JCA invites you to attend its first annual walk and family fun day to support our intergenerational programs, transportation, adult day programs, employment and other resources for seniors in the Greater Washington Area. (Note: This is a “Rain or Shine” event.)
Event includes a short walk around Glen Echo Park, a DJ, a photo scavenger hunt, a selfie-booth with props, art activities, corn hole, giant connect-four and more. Pre-registration closes Aug. 30, 2019.

Job Search Training Program for Job Seekers 50+
Are you over age 50 and considering a job search? JCA’s Career Gateway Program can help you hone your resume, polish your networking and interviewing skills, use Internet job search resources more effectively, and turn your age and experience to your advantage. Each session of the Career Gateway features 30 hours of small-group classroom instruction over five days, comprehensive take-home materials, practical exercises, and a long-term mentor for $75. Sessions run from 9 am until 4 pm. Optional employment-related tech training available, as well.

Benefit from a Property Tax Credit
Benefit from a Property Tax Credit recently expanded for surviving spouses of retired military service members.
On July 30, the County Council unanimously voted to enact Expedited Bill 21-19, Property Tax Credit - Elderly Individuals and Retired Military Services Member - Surviving Spouse. This bill expands the property tax credit for surviving spouses of retired military services members. Under Bill 21-19, a surviving spouse would be eligible for the credit if:
• the individual is a surviving spouse of a retired member of the uniformed services, the military reserves, or the national guard; and
• the surviving spouse is at least 65 years old; and
• the surviving spouse has not remarried.
Eligible individuals can apply at the Department of Finance’s website. The deadline to apply for the property tax credit is Oct. 1, 2019.
