Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church kicked off summer on Friday, June 1, by hosting its first Summer Kickoff. Our Lady of Good Counsel's Pastor, Father Matt Hillyard, supported and volunteered at the event, as did the other Oblates of St. Francis deSales. Our Lady of Good Counsel parishioners and the community came together for food, fellowship and fundraising.
The event engaged more than 100 volunteers, served 400 meals, added $1,000 to general parish fund by coming together to enjoy chicken tenders, fried shrimp and oysters, tostones (fried plantains), rice and beans, topped off with ice cream, root beer floats and much, much more.
Earlier in the evening, there was a Battle of the Boards corn-hole competition with Kevin O'Brien and John Loesch partnering up to win and claim the first place title. Jim Briody and Michael Dykes came in second, while Justin and Stephanie Osterhage claimed the third slot. This Tournament raised $225 to benefit local nonprofit Food for Others' Power Pack program. Later in the evening, a family-friendly movie was played on an outdoor screen under the stars.
