The letter writers' attacks on U.S. Rep. Don Beyer (Alexandria Gazette-Packet July 19-25) in asserting that disgraced EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt "cleaned the swamp" are so outrageously absurd as to invite ridicule and laughter.
Pruitt is the very definition of a "swamp creature" — subordinating the public interest to the special interests of fossil-fuel lobbyists. Add to this his own personal unethical corruption — at taxpayer expense! — which is, in the end, what brought his downfall.
My only hesitancy in sending this letter to the editor is that, in this Time of Trump, we may continue to spread lies while trying to refute them.
