Customers at the Arlington Art Alliance show on Saturday, May 6 hustled quickly out the door of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church with artwork wrapped in plastic to protect it from the raindrops.
Jessica Mickey, co-director of Gallery Underground and an oil painter herself, said there were 35 artists displaying work at the show. She said they represent watercolor, oil, mosaics, acrylic, sculpture and clay. “The qualification to participate is that the artist must live, work or have a studio in Arlington,” she said.
Mickey said people are allowed to put in as many pieces as they like: “People like to experiment with their work and then move on to something else. A lot of these pieces are new work.”
Anna Weigand walked around the displays with her 8-month-old daughter Sienna who she says is attracted by the input of all the colors.
Susan Penny had come “just looking” but found an oil entitled “On the Open Road.” “It is just a good size and I’m from Pennsylvania. This reminds me of where I grew up.”
