Alexandria Police Captain Graduates from FBI Academy

Alexandria Police Captain Shirl Mammarella graduated from the FBI National Academy on Dec. 16, one of 225 graduates in the academy's 266th Session. The National Academy Program is held at the FBI Academy in Quantico, and consists of 10 weeks of coursework in intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, management science, law, behavioral science, law enforcement communication and forensic science. Mammarella is the commander of the police department's Patrol Support Division. She joins the following current Alexandria police officers who have also completed the FBI National Academy: Acting Chief David Huchler, Deputy Chief Chris Wemple, Deputy Chief Shahram Fard, Captain Don Hayes and Captain Len Fouch.

Mammarella joined the Alexandria Police Department in 1987. During her tenure with the department she was assigned as a Vice Narcotics detective and a Domestic Violence detective, and also served as a supervisor in the Traffic Unit. Most recently, Mammarella completed a study and proposal for a new shift configuration for Patrol which was approved and will be implemented in January.
