Mount Vernon — The Gum Springs Recreation Center in Mount Vernon was U.S. Rep. Don Beyer’s
(D-8) last stop on a tour Friday, Aug. 4 to check out the recreation centers on the Route 1 corridor in his district. Beyer was on recess from Capitol Hill so he was getting out in the community, seeing how the recreation centers were operating and what the children were doing. He asked about the county’s Head Start program for children, the computer operations, the historic Gum Springs photos on the wall and visited a youngsters building and then flying kites.
