Tonny Anthony Pitt, a 30-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., was sentenced on May 19 to serve 10 years in the penitentiary for statutory burglary while armed and 10 other counts. The case related to the burglary or vandalism of five different homes in Alexandria.
Pitt, who was convicted after a trial, was sentenced to a total of 72 years and 12 months in prison, with 62 years and 12 months of that sentence suspended for the period of 40 years upon his release from prison. Pitt was also ordered to remain of good behavior and to comply with probation upon release.
In August 2015, Pitt burglarized and/or vandalized private residences on North Alfred Street, North Columbus Street and Colonial Avenue in the City of Alexandria.
Specifically, the defendant was convicted of three counts of burglary, one of those counts alleging a burglary while armed, three counts of larceny, four counts of destruction of property and one count of possessing burglarious tools.
Detectives Michael Rodriguez, Aloysius Asonglefac and Adrienne Miller of Alexandria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Section investigated the case. Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Cathryn F. Evans prosecuted the matter on behalf of the Commonwealth. The defendant is currently in custody in the William G. Truesdale Alexandria Adult Detention Center awaiting transfer to the Department of Corrections.
