The Alexandria-based George Washington Chapter of the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) was recognized as the Best Very Large Chapter in Virginia for 2014-2015 during the 126th Annual Meeting of the Virginia Society, SAR (VASSAR), held in Richmond on Feb. 19-21. The Sons of the American Revolution is a fraternal society organized in 1889 for the male lineal descendants of patriots who served in or supported the goals of freedom and independence in the American Revolution. The George Washington Chapter meets on the second Saturday of every month (except for June, July and August) at the Belle Haven Country Club in Alexandria. At the April meeting, Dr. Donald Binder, the Rector of Pohick Episcopal Church in Lorton, will be speaking on the relationship between the church and Revolutionary leaders George Washington and George Mason.
