The National Student Clearinghouse, headquartered in Herndon, announced Mary C. Chapin as Vice President and Chief Legal Officer to replace Janine Greenwood, who is retiring after 39 years in the legal profession representing education, technology and media companies, including nearly eight years with the National Student Clearinghouse.

“Among the many skills Mary brings to the Clearinghouse, extensive knowledge of data privacy both in the United States and abroad and a firm personal commitment to the protection of the student information entrusted to the Clearinghouse are both foundational and serve to assure that the Clearinghouse continues as the most trusted provider of education services,” said Rick Torres, president and CEO of the National Student Clearinghouse. “She is joining a highly talented and engaged executive leadership team at the Clearinghouse and we look forward to gaining from her perspectives.”

Chapin, formerly the general counsel of Direct Response Consulting Services, Euro DM Ltd. and Washington Lists, Inc., has 23 years of experience advising domestic and international private and publicly-held corporations and nonprofit organizations. Her expertise includes data management and protection, privacy, regulatory issues, intellectual property, employment law, corporate governance and compliance, cybersecurity, and technology transactions.

The National Student Clearinghouse, a nonprofit formed in 1993, is a provider of higher education verifications and electronic education record exchanges, handling more than 1.2 billion education record transactions annually.
