Animal Control officers responded to a report of approximately two dozen dead birds in the area of Avion Parkway and Lee Jackson Memorial Highway on Friday, April 8 around10 a.m. Animal Control officers determined the birds were all of the same species, believed to be European starlings, and there was no apparent cause of death. Animal Control officers collected the birds to be sent for necropsy and laboratory testing. The Animal Services Division is coordinating with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries to determine the cause of death. The investigation continues, pending results.
