Del. David Bulova (D-37) announced his campaign to seek re-election to the Virginia General Assembly at a May 17 event held at Brion’s Grille in Fairfax.

“It is an honor to represent the community where I grew up and where I am raising my own family,” Bulova said in a statement. “This year I was proud to work on successful legislation to increase funding for our local roads, reform our educational Standards of Learning, strengthen our ethics laws, and make it easier for small businesses to start and thrive.

“There is still more to do and I am looking to a positive, issues-oriented campaign,” his statement continued.

The 37th District includes the city of Fairfax, stretches east along Interstate 66 and Fairfax Boulevard to Pickett Road, west along Lee Highway to parts of Centreville and south along Ox Road into Fairfax County as far as the Norfolk Southern Railroad.

Bulova’s family, colleagues from the General Assembly, other elected officials and supporters joined Bulova for the announcement.

“David is one of the most thoughtful, dedicated, and competent state legislators I have ever known,” said Fairfax City Mayor Scott Silverthorne. “We need to keep David in the General Assembly, where he is respected by Democrats, Republicans and independents alike.”

Bulova serves on the General Laws, Education and Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources committees in the General Assembly. In addition, he’s a member of the Chesapeake Bay Commission, State Water Commission, Joint Commission on Health Care, Housing Commission and Virginia War Memorial Board.

“David’s understanding of water-related issues and the environment is an extraordinary value to our Commonwealth,” Sen. Dave Marsden (D-37) said in a statement.
