The theme tree was decorated with a silver and blue trail around the tree which had several animals hiding in the branches. The answer to the question How many animals can you find along the trail was 8: one squirrel, two snowy owls two chipmunks, two fawns with a cardinal for the tree top.
The Great Falls Garden Clubs’ traditional tree came in a very close second. There were four entries this year. The winner is determined by the number of signatures on a roster sheet by each tree. Last year a Girl Scout Troop won.
2015 is so far a banner year for the Great Falls Trailblazers. Phase II of the Georgetown Pike Walkway project has been awarded to Avon Corporation. This will be a stone dust trail from Utterback Store Road. to Falls Chase. Some of the terrain will require a handrail and special pavers. Hopefully, to be completed this fall.
Great Falls trailblazers is a community group whose goal is to make Great Falls a walkable area for people, horses and bikes. We only take donations and apply for government grants to build trails to connect the Village Centers to parks, schools and neighborhoods.
Our next meeting is March 10, 7 p.m. at the library.
