Winter-Spring session registration is underway at the McLean Community Center (MCC). The center opened registration for its Winter-Spring session classes, events and activities on Monday, Dec. 7, for the residents of Small District 1A-Dranesville (who pay a special real estate tax surcharge to fund MCC) and on Monday, Dec. 14, for all others. Winter session classes will begin on Monday, Jan. 11. The center is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.
This session, the Center is offering more than 100 classes for infants through senior adults, providing a convenient and affordable continuing education resource for area residents. MCC tax district residents receive a discount on fees, as do seniors age 60 or older for classes that are more than $50.
Art by Nature, The Weaving Experience, Chess Club, Parent and Child Pasta, Dramatic Kids, Ballet & Tap, Musical Theatre Jazz, Music Together, and Mad Science Experimentamania are just some of the children’s classes offered. Adult class offerings include: Intro to Interior Design, Contemporary Portraiture, Supervised Bridge Play, The Fish Workshop, Beyoncé and Beyond (dance), Body Sculpt, Zumba, Yoga + Pilates, First Aid with CPR + AED and Word Portraits. The center’s 55+ Program classes, which address the special concerns of senior adults, are Estate Planning Made Simple, Appraisal Roadshow, Advance Care Planning, Protect Yourself from Fraud and Identity Theft, Fit for Life, Strength and Balance and Simple Ways to Declutter Your Home, among others.
The center’s day trips and tours program is running trips to The 2016 Philadelphia Flower Show and Blandford Church, the Siege Museum and Centre Hill Mansion in Petersburg, Va. There is also a day trip to see a matinee performance of “Kinky Boots” at the Kennedy Center. Registration for Special Events, such as Family Fun Bingo, on Friday, Jan. 15, Spring Fest on Saturday, Mar. 26, and the Spring Community Garage Sale on Saturday, Apr. 16, will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
