To honor the guide dogs, detection dogs, search and rescue dogs, therapy dogs and animals assisting people with disabilities, the Ophthalmology Department at VCA SouthPaws Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Hospital is teaming up with the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) for the 8th Annual ACVO/StokesRx National Service Animal Eye Exam Event to provide free screening eye exams to service animals during the month of May.
Nancy Bromberg, VMD, DACVO, and Veterinary Specialist at VCA SouthPaws, will provide free eye exams to eligible service animals during the month of May – Monday through Thursday each week – at the hospital’s Fairfax location at 8500 Arlington Blvd. Dr. Bromberg will also provide free eye exams in Fredericksburg on Friday, May 15 at the Hartwood Animal Hospital, located at 15 Jewett Lane. Service Animal owners are encouraged to register now for the free eye exam atwww.acvoeyeexam.org. The registration period is April 1 – April 30, and exams begin in May.
A participant in the event since its inception in 2008, Dr. Bromberg is an ACVO Diplomate and co-chair of the ACVO’s Public Relations Committee.
To qualify, Service Animals must be “active working animals” that were certified by a formal training program or organization, or are currently enrolled in a formal training program. The certifying organization could be national, regional or local in nature. Check qualification requirements to be certain. Owners/agents for the animal(s) must first register the animal via an online registration form beginning April 1 at www.ACVOeyeexam.org. Registration ends April 30.
