More than 40 volunteers from Navy Federal Credit Union gathered at 6:30 a.m. on a chilly Saturday morning, Oct. 4, at the Susan’s Place Program operated by New Hope Housing in Arlington County.
They were volunteering as part of a Rebuilding Together Arlington/Fairfax/Falls Church project – one of 60 home repair projects they perform every year. The volunteers performed such tasks as painting several bedrooms and pouring concrete to expand the driveway. They also put new shelves in the pantry and then stocked it with donated groceries. Susan’s Place is a “Safe Haven” program, providing permanent supportive housing to adults with serious and persistent mental health challenges who have been resistant to other forms of housing or shelter.
