Playfest Returns

he Morning Bishop Theatre Playhouse, Inc., the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority and Alexandria City Public Schools: Center for the Arts are collaborating to bring Playfest, an annual arts event held in the City of Alexandria since 2011, to various locations in the community on Nov. 12-13.

The festival focuses on novice to lesser known playwrights whose work has not been produced.

The performances will feature scenes from plays by female playwrights Morning Bishop Patricia Elam Walker , Sudanya Kirk , Deborah Weiss, Kposivi Clark and MD Abdalla. The theme this year is Woman-Works.

The Morning Bishop Theatre Playhouse, Inc. was established in 1982 in Gary, Ind., and expanded to Alexandria in 2010 with the Alexandria City Community Theatre project with the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities. Playfest was created in collaboration with ARHA in 2011 as a platform for the community to showcase their storytelling skills. In 2012, ACPS joined as an official partner and became the recipient of the Superintendent’s Grant.
