Alexandria — I have been an active cyclist for the nearly 40 years of my adult life, and I am becoming quite annoyed and even embarrassed by the petulant whining of my so-called bicycling "community" and their allies in City Hall over the bike lanes on King Street. Folks, good cyclists do not need lines painted on the streets. We've cycled for years on all kinds of roads and mixed with cars and have learned defensive techniques — and even cooperative ones — in order to coexist with cars and actually enjoy our sport. There are some of us who even obey traffic signals!
Perhaps when the weather breaks you'll all get back on your bikes and not have time to get your bike shorts in a twist over whether there's a bike lane on less than one half mile of King Street.
