Anne and Ramon Martinez

— PAINT (Potomac Artists in Touch) hosted a farewell luncheon March 5 for long-time residents Anne and Ramon Martinez.

The couple moved to Potomac in 1964. Ramon Martinez is an avid vegetable gardener and Anne Martinez taught at Our Lady of Mercy School, helped establish PAINT and The Art Gallery of Potomac.

Anne Martinez describes Potomac as “a beautiful place to live. We have really lived off the land with Ramon’s garden and his hunting and fishing. We also raise our own chickens. It’s been great. I also enjoy the canal and all the old school houses and mills you find as you cross into Virginia. It is very beautiful.”

Having lived here for half a century, they are known and loved by many Potomac residents.

They will move to Santa Fe, New Mexico at the end of this month to be near their son, Christopher. What they will miss most in Potomac, according to Anne Martinez, is the people. “I will miss the PAINT artists, our church, and seeing the kids I taught art to that still live nearby. I now see them with their children.”
