Residents are invited to visit the Fairfax County Animal Shelter this June to take part in ExtravaCATza!, a celebration of cats and kittens. The shelter’s at 4500 West Ox Road in Fairfax and, all month long, adoption fees on all cats and kittens will be just $10.
People who already own a cat and have questions about cat health or behavior – or those who want to learn more about cats before adopting – may visit every Saturday in June, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., to meet with one of the shelter’s volunteer cat experts. Also during this event:
*10 ExtravaCATs will have their adoption fees completely waived;
Classes and programs will be held throughout the month, including a safe cat-handling class and a social hour for cat lovers;
Prizes, giveaways and daily deals will be offered; find the shelter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to keep up with the specials;
June is typically the month the most homeless cats come into the shelter, so adopting a cat during this time means that adopters are getting a new best friend and are also saving a life. The shelter usually has about 35-45 available cats and kittens of all ages, sizes and personalities. The $10 adoption fee is made possible by support from the Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.
Visit the animal shelter calendar of events on the shelter website at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter for details about all the classes, programs and events offered in June. The animal shelter is open Tuesday through Friday, noon to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call the shelter at 703-830-1100, ext. 2.
