Friends of Thomas Jefferson Park has collected 2,330 signatures in a three-month petition drive from citizens who visited its information tables at events, viewed its web site at www.savetjpark.org, and met directly with petition supporters,
including 1,575 signatures from Arlington residents.
"We collected these petition signatures one-by-one, house-to-house, without going to churches and senior-citizen centers,” said Jay Jacob Wind, Friends of TJ Park secretary and curator of the petition.
The petition said: “Save Thomas Jefferson Park: We, the undersigned residents of Arlington and others, oppose any action by Arlington County Board or Arlington School Board that would reduce the parklands at Thomas Jefferson Community Center, including green space and sports facilities. Note: The parklands are the north and east parts of Arlington County parcel 24011037 and all of parcels 24011028 and 24011029.”
The group released the full list of signatures to Arlington County Board and Arlington School Board on Sunday, Dec. 7.
