The Gum Springs Community Center presented the 2013 Annual Black History Celebration on Saturday, March 2 with the theme of “Celebrating Black History from Africa to America and the World Over (The Past, Present and Future).” Close to 300 people attended. The production encompassed narration in the form of a field trip, skits, music, dance, history roll call and poetry. The program began in an African village to a ship, The Good Ship Jesus, slave auction and the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. The event was sponsored by The Gum Springs Community Center’s Advisory Board and Community Center in Partnership with The New Gum Springs Civic Association, The Gum Springs Historical Society, Cif-Paam, I-CCANN Services, LLC, Lowes Home Improvement Store, Shiver Management, Good Shepherd Housing and Wal Mart.
