Alexandria — Capt. Michelle Rakers returns July 20 to Alexandria's Schlesinger Center, conducting the Marine Chamber Orchestra in a not-to-be-missed 7:30 p.m. free performance.
Last July, Capt. Rakers led this orchestra in such an expert and passionate performance of Tchaikovsky's "Serenade in C, Opus 48" that there was no encore. Rakers and the
orchestra had given their all, and left the stage thoroughly exhausted.
An appreciative Schlesinger Center audience gave them a two-minute standing, cheering ovation.
Every Alexandria middle school student and above should be dragged away from their electronic devices and treated to what promises to be some of the finest live music performed, on par with the New York Philharmonic, etc.

The Schlesinger Center is at 3001 N. Beauregard on the Northern Virginia Community College campus. Parking in the adjacent garage is $6.
