Fairfax Dentists to Donate iPods to Alzheimer’s Patients

Fairfax dentists at Smiles At Fairfax Corner, are helping local Alzheimer patients in the community by launching a "Tuned For Memory" event. The event will run from Tuesday, May 1 through Friday, June 1.

Doctors Rayek, Lee, Barekzi, and Jahangiri believe helping the community in any way is their duty. "We would like to reach out to the community and ask for them to donate their old iPods. We will be downloading music from the ‘20s, ‘30s, and ‘40s onto the iPod. The iPods will then be donated to Alzheimer and Dementia patients," Rayek said.

There has been recent studies showing that the people suffering from Alzheimer’s/dementia may see improved mental functioning through the power of music. Music can help to awaken, stimulate and improve cognitive functioning.

Anyone can drop new or used iPods off during the business hours of:

Monday 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Tuesday 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Wed 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Thursday 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Friday 8 a.m. – 2 p.m..

The office is located at 4210 Fairfax Corner West #220, Fairfax, VA 22030.

"In a troubled economy that affects many Americans, the spirit of giving to others is needed more than ever. The more people who know about this effort, the more Alzheimer patients can receive assistance," Rayes said.
