Arlington Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Pat Murphy signed a Memorandum of Understanding last week with Communities In Schools of Virginia. The collaboration will explore ways to provide students with additional measures of support to succeed in school and life.
Communities In Schools is a national organization headquartered in Arlington whose mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
CIS works within a public school system to determine student needs and establish relationships with local businesses, social service agencies, health care providers, and parent and volunteer organizations to provide needed resources.
APS has appointed a task force to identify steps it can take to improve the graduation rate for all students, and the CIS initiative is part of this effort.
