Library to Host Author Larrie D. Ferreiro
The Great Falls Library will host author Larrie D. Ferreiro Tuesday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. Ferreiro will be discussing his book "Measure of the Earth: The Enlightenment Expedition that Shaped the World."
The book is a story of an unlikely team of European scientists and naval officers who set out on the world’s first international, cooperative scientific expedition. Their goal was to make measurements at the equator in order to find the true shape of the earth.
Ferreiro, a Fairfax resident, has authored several books on the history of science and technology. His book "Ships and Science: The Birth of Naval Architecture in the Scientific Revolution. 1600-1800" received the North American Society for Oceanic History’s John Lyman Award for best book in science and technology.
