The fourth grade students at Lees Corner Elementary School turned in their jeans for knickers, bonnets, tri-corner hats and aprons to celebrate Colonial Day on Thursday, Jan. 19. Part of the grade’s history of Virginia curriculum, the entire school day is dedicated to activities relating to colonial life in Virginia. Students play colonial games, demonstrate colonial dances in front of an audience of guests, they make a variety of colonial crafts, including candles, rag dolls, marble bags, and they make some colonial dishes like johnny cakes and butter. More than 40 parents and 14 faculty were involved in the preparation and execution of the event.
