Armed Services YMCA is calling for entries for its essay contest, sponsored by Lockheed Martin. The essay contest asks children in grades 1-12 to submit essays about “Why My Military Mom/Dad Is My Hero.” Children of active duty and retired service members from all branches of the military, as well as National Guard and Reserve, are eligible. Essays must be submitted by March 16. Winners of the art contest will receive U.S. savings bonds worth $500; essay contest will receive $500 or $1,000 depending on grade level. The Oakton High School PTSA J. Antonelli Briceno Scholarship in memory of Sandra Lee Eisenach was established in 2005 to offer financial assistance to Oakton High School seniors wishing to further their education after high school.

Full details of the scholarship, together with scholarship downloadable application are available at www.oaktonhsptsa.org/eisenach_ scholarship.htm. Only Oakton High students with a GPA of 3.0.

The deadline for applications is March 29 by 4 p.m. A committee from the Oakton PTSA will select the scholarship recipient and forward the name to The Dayton Foundation (www.dayton foundation.org) for approval by the Governing Board of the Foundation.
