Create a Custom Cookbook. Create a cookbook using family recipes, traditions, photos and memories each Thursday, through June 1 from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St., S.E. Diane King, former editor-in-chief for Pillsbury Cookbooks, will teach how to research, design and publish a cookbook. The cost for all four sessions is $30 for town residents and $37.50 for out-of-town participants and includes a take-home cookbook of recipe favorites shared by class members. Personal Safety for Women will be held in four parts, May 15, 17, 22 and 24 from 7-10 p.m. at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St., S.E. Officer Virginia Palmore of the Vienna Police Department will teach basic crime prevention and risk reduction measures, plus physical self-defense techniques to help women be more confident in an attack situation. DVD Storyboard Class will teach how to turn family photos into a slide show with music and family voices. Join computer specialist Steve Lemon on Thursday, May 18 from 1-3 p.m. as he scans heirloom photos into his computer, color corrects and restores, and sorts them into sequence. A free T'ai Chi Beginners Practice is held every Saturday morning from 8-9 a.m., outdoors, at McLean Central Park, behind the Dolley Madison Library on Ingleside Avenue. "Recipes for Health," a three-part series about healthy eating and living, will be held June 2, 9 and 16 from 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St., S.E. Foster Family Training. Northern Virginia Family Service offers summertime training for prospective foster families. NVFS foster and respite families receive: intensive training, certification, continuing education, child/parent matching, ongoing assistance and 24-hour support from professional social workers, financial reimbursement, help locating support services for foster/respite children, foster/respite parent support groups, and family activities. Leadership Fairfax Inc. (LFI), a nonprofit organization, is seeking candidates for its two leadership programs; the Leadership Fairfax Signature program and the Emerging Leaders Institute program. The programs are open to individuals who live or work in Northern Virginia. LFI selects participants each year from the business, government, education and nonprofit sectors of the Northern Virginia area. The application deadline for the Leadership Fairfax Signature Program is June 15. The application deadline for the Emerging Leaders Institute is July 15, 2006.
