Book Signing. Chuck Mauro, president of the Herndon Historical Society, is scheduled to release his third book, "Herndon: A History in Images" in June. Alzheimer’s Seminar. How to Have a Good Visit — Learn strategies for meaningful visits with those who have significant memory impairment. This program will explore tips for effective communication and suggestions for activities while visiting. Current Events. "Middle East: Behind the Headlines" will be presented by William Kirby, a retired Foreign Service Officer who has spent 40 years dealing with the Middle East, this two-session program will take place on two Thursdays, June 16 and June 23, at 10:30 a.m.-noon, at the RCC Lake Anne. Baccalaureate Service. The Herndon High School class of 2005 baccalaureate service for graduating seniors and guests will be held in the Herndon High School Auditorium, at 7 p.m. Col. Richard O. Hatch, recently returned Staff Judge Advocate for Lt. Gen. David Pertraeus over the Multi-National Security Transition Command/Iraq, will be the keynote speaker. This interfaith service has been organized and sponsored entirely by the HHS PTSA and is not sponsored or endorsed by the Fairfax County Public Schools.

Golf Benefit. Kids R First, a recipient of The Best of Reston award this year, will hold its Fourth Annual Golf Classic at Pleasant Valley Golfers’ Club in Chantilly. Ocean City Trip. One-day travelers will leave the Reston Community Center for Ocean City, Md., at Hunters Woods, at 6 a.m. and return at 9:30 p.m. Ocean City has 10 miles of sand-white beaches. Activities include swimming, bicycling, skateboarding, sunbathing, fishing, golfing, antique and outlet shopping, and a three-mile Boardwalk. The cost of the trip is $25 for people who live or work in Reston and $38 for everyone else. The price covers transportation and a trip coordinator. This trip is for people age 6 and older. Latinos in Baseball. Tim Wendel will tell the stories of key Latino baseball stars in a slide-show presentation. A local writer, Wendel was one of the founders of USA Today Baseball Weekly and has covered baseball for nearly two decades. His talk will detail the rise of Latinos superstars and discuss how the sport has been transformed. His book, "The New Face of Baseball: The One-Hundred-Year Rise and Triumph of Latinos in America's Favorite Sport," named Top History Book by the Latino Literary Awards, will be available for signing after the program. Multicultural Festival. Reston's 5th Annual Multicultural Festival returns to Lake Anne Plaza, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and will provide a rich multicultural experience.
