Alexandria police are investigating the disappearance of Sherry A. Walker, a 40-year-old Alexandria woman. Walker was first reported missing by her sister in December, approximately six weeks after her family last saw her.
According to her family, it was not unusual for Walker, who has a history of mental illness, to go missing from time to time. However, they were concerned because she had never lost contact with them for this length of time.
A number of Alexandria police officers saw Walker in the Arlandria area between mid-December and early January. But no witnesses report seeing her in the past six weeks.
Sherry A. Walker has been diagnosed with schizophrenia but is probably not on medication now. Her neighbors in the 3900 block of Old Dominion Boulevard believe that she was going to check into a hospital for mental health treatment in October, but police could find no record that this occurred.
Walker is described as a medium-complected African-American, approximately 5-feet, 6-inches tall, and 250 pounds.
Anyone who has seen Walker in the past six months is asked to contact Detective Irv Ellman at 703-838-4404.
