For most of the year, David K. North leads an Oakton-based inspirational choir leaning heavily on the gospel music tradition. But for a pre-Valentine’s Day party, he’ll join a pop band in a more secular mixture of jazz, soul, rock and blues.
“While gospel music sends a joyful but serious message about life, these songs are all about love and the ups and downs of personal passion and heartbreak,” said North.
North and the House of Jam Band will bring their songs of love gained and lost on Saturday, Feb. 6, to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax, 2709 Hunter Hill Road in Oakton.
They’ll provide numbers ranging from Barry White’s “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love” to Ricky Martin’s “La Vida Loca,” in a venue set up for listening, dancing and conversation. Proceeds go to North’s chorus, Mosaic Harmony, a 17-year-old interfaith multicultural community ensemble.
When he’s not singing or choir directing, North is a social worker in Prince Georges County, Md., and is pastor of the Holy Redeemer Metropolitan Community Church in College Park, Md.
Tickets to the show, which starts at 7 p.m., can be purchased through Mosaic Harmony’s Web site, www.mosaicharmony.org for $25 each or $45 for two. Tickets sold at the door will cost $30 apiece, $50 for two.
