O'Rourke Signs with Pittsburgh
Local gymnast and J.E.B Stuart senior Katie O'Rourke signed her National Letter of Intent to compete for the University of Pittsburgh on Nov. 12.

"At first I didn't know what to think about [Pittsburgh] because it's the 'Steel City,'" O'Rourke said. "But I really liked the campus and the coaches."

Oï¿½Rourke is a resident of Springfield and trains at the Capital National Training Center in Burke and is a level 10 gymnast.

Augustus Leads Lee into Div. 5 AAA Region Finals
At the beginning of the 2009 season, Robert E. Lee head coach Rob Everett said Leeï¿½s senior running back Idreis Augustus was the best player in the Northern Region.

After Augustusï¿½ three touchdown, 205-yard rushing performance against Hayfield in the Northern Region AA Semi-finals on Friday, Nov. 20, Everettï¿½s claim is still looking strong.

The Lancers defeated Hayfield 28-24 to claim a berth in the Northern Region AAA Finals on Saturday, Nov. 28 at Stone Bridge High School.

Lee will face Stone Bridge, which defeated Madison High School 27-8 on Nov. 20 to reserve a seat in the finals.

Indoor Lacrosse Registration
Northern Virginia West Lacrosse (NoVa West) is currently in the process of registering for its indoor lacrosse season.

The group is also accepting registrations for tryouts in its summer select teams, which include U11, U13, U15 and two levels of high school play.

Youth Basketball Tournament Registration
The 16th Annual Mason Dixon Holiday Tip-Off Basketball Tournament for boys and girls in the 8, 10, 12 and 14-and-under age groups is currently accepting registration.

The event is Dec. 28, 29 and 30 in York County, Pa.

The tournament features round-robin competition and all teams are guaranteed a minimum of three games.
