Fairfax Advances in Regional Volleyball Tourney
On Nov. 2, the Fairfax girls’ varsity volleyball team defeated Thomas Jefferson High School in four games to advance in the regional tournament.

The scores of the games were, 25-15, 23-25, 25-23 and 26-24.

Creative defensive floor moves and strong offensive production proved to be the difference maker for the Rebels.

Standouts in the match included: Ann Sung, (15 kills, four aces and a block), Abigail Baughman, (13 kills), Diana Hartford (12 kills and five aces), Kevyn Richmond, (eight kills, one block), Andye Belcher (five kills) and Kelsey Phillips (two kills).

Howes, Gates Advance to Regional Championship for Woodson
The W.T. Woodson Cross Country team closed out a challenging season at its first Patriot District Championship on Oct. 28.

Although the boys’ and girls’ teams fell short of qualifying for the Northern Region Championship, two individuals qualified for the race.

The boys’ team finished seventh overall and Paul Gates advanced to the Northern Region Championship on Nov. 5 with a time of 15:57. Gates finished fourth overall in the boys’ race.

Erica Howes of the girls’ team finished sixth overall in the girls’ race with a time of 18:45 and also advanced to the Northern Region Championship.
The girls’ team finished fifth overall, just four points from qualifying for the Northern Region Championship as a team.

Sports Physicals at Fairfax High
Fairfax High School will be hosting sports physicals on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 6-8 p.m.

The physicals will be good for registration in winter and spring sports for the 2009-10 school year.

The cost of the physicals is $50 for pre-registered and $60 for walk-ins.

Physicals completed at Fairfax High School on Nov. 11 will be accepted at any Fairfax County Public School.

Youth Wrestling Registration
The Braddock Wrestling Club (BWC) is conducting a registration drive for youth wrestlers.

BWC is part of the Northern Virginia Wrestling Federation [www.nvwf.net].

Wrestling practice will take place every Tuesday and Thursday, from 6:30-8:15 p.m., starting Nov. 10, at the Lake Braddock Secondary School wrestling room.

BWC wrestlers will participate in eight to 10 tournaments, from December to February.
