Pastor John Michael Hyde Dies

Pastor John Michael "Pastor Jack" Hyde 65, of Woolwine, Va. died Wednesday, May 27, at Culpeper Regional Hospital.

A celebration of Hyde’s life took place on Monday, June 1, at Vale United Methodist Church in Oakton, with Pastor Tracy Wines officiating. Another event is scheduled on Thursday, June 4, at 11 a.m. at Woolwine United Methodist Church, with Pastor Bruce Tuttle officiating.

Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is handling the arrangements.



Civil War Tour in Hunter Mill Area

A Civil War tour along the Hunter Mill Road corridor for ages 12 and up, sponsored by the Vienna Parks and Recreation Department, is scheduled for Saturday, June 13. A charter bus will leave at 8:30 a.m. from the historic Freeman House, 131 Church St., N.E., and return around 1 p.m.

Visit the locations of skirmishes, encampments, graves and historical structures of the Civil War with a local historian from the Hunter Mill Defense League, who will discuss the ordeal of the local citizenry as well as the soldiers and raiders of the time.

Summer Getaway to Tangier Island

The Vienna Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a summer getaway to Tangier Island on Saturday, June 13. A charter bus will leave at 6:15 a.m. from the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St., S.E., and return around 6 p.m.

The cost of $95 for Town of Vienna residents and $118.75 for out-of-town participants includes transportation, one and a half-hour boat ride on the Chesapeake Breeze, lunch at the Chesapeake House and about 2 1/2 hours to explore the island.
